This series of studies is designed to familiarize clarinetist with the modes of limited transposition used by Olivier Messiaen. Each study is based on one of the seven modes or on one of their transpositions. Ricordi, PB, 65 pages. The book starts at the intermediate level but progresses relatively quickly to more challenging material. While many of the exercises modulate through various keys the written key signatures are not more than 3 sharps or flats. Several of the caprices near the end of the book have a theme and variation structure.
This book has slightly clearer printing than the Carl Fischer edition. Carl Fischer, , SS, 64 pages. This book will lay flatter than the Ricordi edition because of the difference in binding. This book includes a page of suggested fingerings and a two page glossary of Italian musical terms.

These studies are in all major and minor keys and tend toward being somewhat exercise like with many repeated figures. Upper intermediate level and perhaps a bit beyond.
