Clavis Patrum Graecorum I
ISBN: Begun in and encompassing six volumes, the series Clavis Patrum Graecorum [End Page ] CPG aims to provide an authoritative inventory of every known work written by Greek patristic authors with evaluations of their authenticity and their state of survival most are still extant, but some are only known from references in other works. Like the Bollandist enterprise Bibliotheca Hagiographica Graeca and its Latin counterpart, each work in the CPG receives an inventory number, which scholars can use as a convenient shorthand for the work in question. Each entry also features a bibliography and useful but laconic notes about the survival of these texts in other languages, including Latin, Syriac, Armenian, Georgian, Arabic, and more. The first volume of the series treats the writings of the Ante-Nicene Greek fathers, while the second and third volumes cover authors from the fourth to the eighth centuries, from Athanasius of Alexandria to John of Damascus. The fourth volume is perhaps the most obscure and least utilized of the series. It is devoted to the canons of the early Greek church councils and Greek catenae, literally "chains" of patristic commentary on biblical texts.
